This post is sponsored by EBY, maker of my all-time favorite bra.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I recently spent a week in Paris, which was pure bliss. With this letter, I thought I’d detail what I wore day-to-day and where I wore it — in case it helps inspire some ideas for your own trip, wherever it might be.
A few notes before we dive in: French women are famously chic and effortless, and that is well-illustrated in their beauty routines. Botox, blowouts, lash extensions….these are almost nonexistent among French women.
I aimed to follow suit, air-drying my hair most days, or wearing it up in a claw clip. My makeup, meanwhile, was very minimal and the same every day: a pump of vitamin C serum on clean skin, followed by a layer of this absolutely perfect tinted-moisturizer with SPF. It gives the most insane glow, and it’s a three-in-one (moisturizer, makeup, SPF) that doesn’t feel or look heavy. Next came a swipe of my favorite cream blush (I use this technique to apply it), a dab of lip balm, and a brush of mascara. At night, I added a thick line of this burgundy eyeliner and lined my lips with this.
Oh, and if you’re visiting Paris: pack comfortable shoes. Paris is a flats or sneakers city. Everyone takes the metro! I didn’t take a single taxi and averaged 20,000 steps per day. The highest heels I brought were a pair of roughly-two-inch-tall Khaite mules that I wore to dinner one night.
Comfy undies are also crucial and EBY makes the best ones (iykyk). I packed my relief bra and matching panties in multiple colors and my mesh bra and matching panties for something a bit more sexy. Everything they make is super comfortable, supportive and wireless.
Onward.
PS. I’m working on a longer roundup of everywhere I ate, shopped and visited during my time in Paris for paid subscribers so stay tuned for that.
& if you appreciate my newsletter, give this post a heart — it costs nothing and means a lot to me!
Museum-Hopping
The details: Comfortable shoes, a light jacket in case it’s cold in the galleries (mine is thrifted), a bag that allows you to go hands-free. Oh — and wide leg jeans! I wore these constantly throughout the trip; most comfortable pair I’ve ever owned. I took a 26 and could have sized down one. (More sizes here.)
wide-leg jeans (more sizes here), red polo sweater, silver sneakers, quilted jacket (mine is thrifted but this one is similar and on sale for under $50), lip balm, black slouchy bag, sunglasses (these are my exact pair)
Sexy Dinner Out
The details: A sheer dress (mine is an estate sale find by the brand Digna Yero), gorgeous underwear, flat sandals (the only women I saw wearing very high heels in Paris were Americans and it was glaringly obvious), vintage bag.
black sheer dress, lacy bra (same one I’m wearing and I have several by this brand — sexiest undies ever), high-waisted bathing suit bottoms (also same ones I’m wearing), black gladiator sandals, lip balm and lip pencil (shade I wear in Desert Rose), mascara, burgundy eyeliner (shade is Margeaux Bordeaux), 1920s black velvet pouch, green bolo tie, sapphire necklace, laminated barn jacket
Lunch With a View
The details: Chic sneakers, jeans with a fun shape… I wore a variation on this outfit every day.
white jeans, oversized white tee (the best and under $30), bra and underwear, quilted jacket (mine is thrifted but this one is similar and on sale for under $50), silver sneakers, black slouchy bag, sunglasses (these are my exact pair), sapphire necklace
Steak Frites Dinner
The details: Something chic but easy, like a fringed jacket (mine is thrifted), a basic black tank and well-tailored jeans — worn with flats.
fringe jacket (really excellent vintage version here), black tank, jeans (these are so well-tailored it’s insane, I love them!), fishnet flats, aviator sunglasses, 1920s black velvet pouch
Vintage-Shopping at Marché aux Puces
The details: Sneakers you can walk miles in, panties and a bra that won’t require constant readjusting, something unrestrictive.
wide-leg jeans (more sizes here), bra and panties, oversized gray cashmere tee (on sale and one of the best things I own), quilted jacket (mine is thrifted but this one is similar), sneakers (I’m wearing old Gucci x Adidas but I am obsessed with these), black slouchy bag, sunglasses (these are my exact pair)
Trendy Dinner
The details: A little mule, a gauzy linen tank, and a fringed jacket. Plus a fun little bag.
fringe jacket (really excellent vintage version here), linen tie tank, white jeans, white mules (these are the exact ones I’m wearing in the above photo), vintage perfume compact with tassel
ODDS & ENDS
Now on my neck: I was gifted this incredible puffy heart on a chain and I’ve been adding it to my daily rotation. It’s so fun (would make a great gift, too).
A recent laundry room purchase: I’m really into environmentally conscious detergents and I always look for formulas made for sensitive skin. This fits the bill, smells amazing, and the packaging is really cool.
On my tv forecast: Will you be watching the Ryan Murphy JFK Jr. series? I sure will be. The cast was revealed and I am really excited about Naomi Watts as Jackie O.
The fringe jacket - WANT! I saw a similar vest version in a vintage shop a few weeks ago and really regretted not getting it....
Love a what I wore! That fringe find is so good and I loved your note about shopping secondhand with an eye toward upcoming trends. Hard, but so smart!!
